What is a weight loss page doing on a counseling service's website?
Weight problems are often an intregal part of other mental health issues. Unexplained weight loss or weight gain can be symptomatic of depression. Grief and worry often cause weight loss or weight gain and must be addressed in a therapeutic setting for the weight issues to be resolved. Malnutrition is often one of the first signs of depression and unresolved grief in the elderly. Finally, eating disorders such as bulimia usually require professional intervention for a successful outcome.
But, the most common problem is that losing weight is so difficult for just about all of us. Food addictions, mindless eating, emotional eating, anger eating...are so tough to handle alone because we can't live without food. We don't need cigarettes to survive...or booze...or illegal drugs. But, we must have food. That's why weight control is so tough. We can't quit food "cold turkey" and expect to survive.
This page is not about dieting.
We are not nutritionists. We are not going to tell you what to eat or what not to eat. Our intention for this page is to deal with the emotional issues mentioned above. But perhaps more important, to approach eating and weight control from a positive viewpoint. People who have fought their weight for months, years or even their whole lives often feel beaten up. They have tried everything and feel they have failed. Our goal is to provide positive thoughts, encouraging words, doable tips and ultimately to help you feel good about yourself again. So we will be talking about good health...physical, emotional and spiritual.
We hope you'll visit this page often. You may send comments to us through our contact page.
